How Hackers Piled Onto the Israeli-Hamas Conflict
Here are the down and dirty on how hackers decided to get their mitts into the Israeli-Hamas mess:
So, it seems like every Tom, Dick, and Harry hacker wants a piece of the Israel-Gaza showdown, turning it into their own digital playground. Now, don’t get me wrong, the Gaza strip ain’t exactly Silicon Valley – with the power being knocked out left and right, most of these hackers probably aren’t even in the neighborhood. Got some tech-savvy folks out in Iran and maybe even Mother Russia joining the party?
Chattering away on Telegram, some of these hacking groups are boasting about messing with everything from Israeli newspapers to that fancy Iron Dome missile defense shield. Now, I’m not saying all these claims are the real deal, but it’s a whole new ballgame when the digital battlefield gets as hot as the real one.
Sure, some of these hackers might just be running their mouths, but there’s a few things that make me raise an eyebrow. The fact that over 80 websites got hit, including some government and media big shots. That’s not just some kids in a basement. They have followed with hundreds of billboards replacing older ads and emails with, new messaging pleading their case for protection.
But here’s the kicker: despite Hamas being pretty darn crafty on the ground, it’s hard to say if they’re hand in hand with these cyber troublemakers. Old school methods still work best when you’re trying to stay under the radar. Trust a good old phone call over an email any day!
Now, compare this cyber hullabaloo with what went down in Ukraine last year with Russia, and it might seem like small potatoes. But just because these hackers aren’t bringing down whole communication networks doesn’t mean they’re not packing a punch.
While Israel’s got one of the sophisticated cyber defenses in the world, it isn’t bulletproof. And with the U.S. stepping up to give a helping hand, its clear things are about to heat up.
But how exactly will the US step up. While Hamas holds over 100 Americans hostage, we hear nothing from the White House, and I have been told Congress is on yet another break. I’m sure the hostages are comfortable as well. It’s time to step up, either with or without permission and support building your provisions and battle plans today and assemble a team of Rangers or Marine Force Recon or SEALS to get in today and begin the rescue operation which appears to be stalled out in the oval office.
